Chatham hosts an annual memorial service for French, Dutch, American, and other prisoners of war who died on prison ships during the Napoleonic Wars. This years event was held on 15th November 2025 at the French Prisoner of War Memorial at the St. George's Centre and was attended by Mayor Medway, Former Mayors and other Dignitaries, as well as a company of the 42nd Highlanders.
